5 Ways to Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer
With the heat rising as we enter the hottest month of the year, it’s crucial to keep your pups cool, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun! Here are five ways to keep your pups cool and happy through the dog days of summer.
1. Have a pool party
Kiddie pools aren’t just for kids! To make your dog the happiest pup, fill a plastic kiddie pool with cold water and let him go wild for water! It will keep them cool and entertained. Our only tip is to make sure the pool isn’t made from vinyl or another material that could be punctured by their paws.
2. Seven Second Rule
According to canine experts, dog owners should observe this simple rule when determining if it is safe to take their pups out in the heat. All you have to do is place the back of your hand on the ground and press down for seven seconds. If you cannot comfortably keep your hand on the pavement, then it is too hot for your dog. When this is the case, try sticking a dog park or area of your backyard that is all grass or wait for the ground to cool.
3. Pup Pops
You love summer treats. I love summer treats. We all LOVE summer treats and so does your dog! We’ve tried a ton of fun popsicle recipes for dogs and they’re all a hit!
4. Combine Fashion & Function
Nothing is cuter than a dog in a neckerchief. Here’s our tip – soak his neckerchief in cold water and pop it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Not only will it look cute, but it will keep him cool. We love a dual-purpose item!
5. Know the Signs of Heat Stroke
We’ve said it before, and we will say it again. Heat stroke can have devastating consequences if it is not treated quickly and correctly. If you notice that your dog is starting to act lethargic, confused, begins panting excessively, you need to treat the symptoms seriously and seek veterinary assistance ASAP.
