This month we’re highlighting a real Nature’s Select customer of ours from Northern California. Check out his cool story below!
Meet Nature’s Select Dog Lance
Lance is a 3 year old German Shepherd from Truckee, CA. He’s a search and rescue dog doing great work up in Northern California with his owner Jess!
MEET LANCE THE SEARCH & RESCUE DOG!
Lance is a male German Shepherd and he just turned three years old August 10th. His dad, Jess, brought him home at 8-weeks old and immediately started his training in both tracking and trailing, and since they live in Northern California, he also began training on how to search in the snow.
Lance and Jess are a great team. They are both California state certified in Type 1 Trailing (Urban-Wilderness Searches), Human Remains Detection (HRD), and Avalanche searching. They are also certified in performing searches in Type 1 terrain environments above 8,000 ft elevation. With some of these searches they have been taken to the search area via helicopters. Lance has already been involved in many searches (5 for the month of August 2024 alone!) and he works very enthusiastically. Lance and Jess volunteer for the following teams:
Placer County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Dog Team
California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA)
Yosemite National Park Rescue Dog Team (YODOGS)
Lance on the Job
“We have been your customer longer than I can remember; 20+ years? And, we believe in your product and customer service so much, I tell anybody about you guys that will listen. My SAR trailing-Avalanche dog Lance saved a woman recently in Northern California, and I wanted to forward you the story. Mrs. Beth Watson was missing in very rugged terrain for 2 days before Lance and I were called in with our county team, Placer Co Sheriff SAR to assist with the search. Lance trailed and searched for Mrs Watson for almost 10 miles before he found her, severely dehydrated but alive. As a testament to the SAR team work, local citizens, and Lance having the opportunity to assist, Mrs Watson was medically treated and reunited with her family. Lance is my second SAR dog, Shane was my first. Your dog food and products is a tremendous factor in maintaining their health and performing these very difficult and critical searches.”

For his off-duty time, Lance loves to hike, swim and play in the snow. He loves to interact with everybody, including dogs and people, and just enjoys hanging out with our other fur family members; Noel, a female Malinois mix 8-years old who was rescued when she was a pup, and a 14-years old Siamese cat, Gracie, who is another rescue and she just so happens to think she is a dog!
